Thanks So Much

Here's another idea for a Thank You note that is quite easy to do . . .

After stamping the background leaves with VersaMark, I waited until the watermark effect showed up when the clear ink turned the paper darker and the leaf became more visible.  Then I lightly colored in the open spaces of the leaves with the Prisma White pencil.  The effect is subtle, adds visual texture, and doesn't compete with the focal points.

Thank You

After struggling to get all of our cards made and sent out in time, I'm now focusing on our Thank You notes.  I usually do these up ahead of the game so that writing the note is all that is left to do.  But this year, I'm still playing catch-up after having gotten two months behind with a broken ankle in late Summer.  So I opted for a sweet and simple layout . . .

 . . . three dies, one punch, one stamp, some glitter and a ribbon and I'm done.   Crossed fingers for a more orderly 2017!

Noel

With an 85-Christmas card list, I vow every year to keep it simple.  And I try . . . I really, really do.  I start out simple, and then it just grows.  Still, I think I did better this year than most other years . . .

I smooshed the blue and purple inks onto the shadow stamp, misted twice with water, and then stamped.  That was the fast part.  Then came the die cuts:  the ornament, the glittered bow overlay, and the "Noel".  All were tough to get out of the dies in one piece.  But I'm happy with the misty colors and the timeless message:

Christ is born . . . Glorify Him!

Happiness

This cheery card owes a lot of its good humor to Washi paper . . .

I love working with the many beautiful patterns found on Washi papers but I find them too thin to use as is.  A good work-around for me has been to iron them onto the shiny side of freezer paper.  This is quick and easy, and there's no bleed-thru or messy glues to deal with.  The result is a sturdy piece that holds up to die cutting and also makes a great background layer.

The floaty aspects of acetate layering were put to use in this layout.  I used pop dots for altitude and covered them up with judiciously placed die cuts.  Acetate layering may seem tricky at first, but there are a lot of easy work-arrounds you can play with . . .

Frosty Pines

The possibilities with acetate layers still beguile me, so the next two posts will feature this wonderfully useful design tool . . .

If you buy anything at all, it may well come packaged in acetate that just might be large enough to be useful.  It cuts easily with scissors or your paper trimmer, and is a great way to re-use something that would otherwise be thrown away. 

In this layout, I used a foam strip that would eventually be hidden under the pine branches.  I glued the stamped acetate layer to the foam before adding the branches.  I now had a popped-up layer that was a perfect platform for a pair of floating butterflies.  To keep the acetate from sagging, I added black pearls to the woodgrain layer underneath.

I always prop up wings and other dimensional accents with a fat drop of Glossy Accents added to the layer below.  This allows my cards to be mailed, and yet look perky when removed from the envelope.

Asparagus

Due to holiday-related feelings of nostalgia, plus a huge time crunch even bigger than usual, I am going to re-visit a few favorite cards while I scramble to catch up.  As I've been on an asparagus kick lately, I thought I'd start with this one . . .

 Usually when adding a bow to a project, I simply tie it and then glue it down.  This time, I cut narrow slits with my X-Acto alongside the asparagus and threaded the ribbon through the slits.  So the asparagus bunch really is tied up which gives it a much more authentic look, although it may not be evident in the picture.

Beauty

In light of the fact that we've had two snowstorms this week, I think it's time to acknowledge the fact that Fall has disappeared and it's time for a suitably wintry card theme . . .

 Lots of texture here and the Shabby White embossing powder scattered over the background really seals the deal:  it has some sparkle, bits of gold, and lots of dimension.  Application is easy with no inking necessary:  scatter the powder over the background and heat from beneath.  Done!
