It's Your Day!

Card #2 of my five card series of Broken Mirror die cut backgrounds . . .

The splotchy background came straight from my Scrap Stash – the source for two more of my cards.  A little jute knot and a few pearls were enough for this one . . .

Hugs

Having recently acquired a most intriguing patchwork-type die, I decided to see how many different looks I could make with it.  So starting with today’s post, I’m showing five varied ways to put this die to use . . .

. . . three of them will be for Father’s Day cards and the last two are birthday cards for women.  That’s one of the things I love about this die – it works for both guy and gal cards.

This card uses a mix of six different patterned papers accented with some fresh white and a little olive green.  The “Hugs” sentiment was supposed to go into the lower right corner to help balance the composition.  However, I thought it was more fun (and would be more visible) to plop it onto the pot.  So that’s where it landed . . .

Memories

Alcohol inks always provide the most deliciously intense colors . . .

. . . rich, saturated, vibrant colors.  Pastels certainly have their beautiful uses, but my heart always responds to hues that aren’t afraid to stand up and say something!

Fleur

Having seen some lovely examples of alcohol inked backgrounds, I’ve been playing with them recently . . .

On this one, I also added a dab of Adirondack Snow Cap.  A tiny amount of that goes a very long way, I can tell you.  More practice is definitely on the schedule!

With Sympathy

Am having a good time playing with alcohol inks and Yupo cardstock . . .

After heat embossing with gold powder, I dropped on some Rust alcohol ink and spread it around with Tim Holtz’s alcohol ink blower.  It muted the embossing somewhat which is a reaction I normally don’t like.  But this time, I thought it suited the layout very well.

Joy

Some Fun Flock adds a realistically soft and fuzzy look to the pussy willow background . . .

Pussy willows are a very popular plant that is traditional to use at Easter time.  Why?  Because, as with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, you can’t really kill it.  This sturdy plant is pretty much eternal.

To all who celebrate, may your Easter be a very blessed one!

Thinking of You

When it comes to guy cards, some may feel that the design options are limited.  But I think there are numerous images that can always work for anyone and for any theme.  My favorites usually come down to leaves . . .

I admit to having a serious collection of leaves in countless styles and designs and it’s always fun to pull out a few and go to town with them . . . I think there are a million ways to work with leaves and I plan to try all of them out!
