Hudson

The loss of a beloved pet who has been a member of the family for over eighteen years is especially hard . . .

As the beloved pet of my priest and his wife, Hudson led a blessed life indeed.  He is now home with his Creator . . . happy and healthy.  Hope I get to meet him when it’s my turn to go Home one day . . .

The Rainbow Bridge

Pet losses are some of the most soul-searing events ever.  When my friend Sandy had to say goodbye to her much-loved Max, this is what I sent her . . .

“Losing them is the price we pay for loving them,” I was once told.  So be it . . . for the immense joy our pets have brought into our daily lives, the time of deep mourning we have to go through when we lose them is worth it.  Rest in peace, Max . . .

Mama Lita

When my friend’s well-loved cat Mama Lita died in November, it was especially sad because Lita was the Mother of several of their other cats . . .

. . . a month shy of fifteen years, she was a true sweetie, and will long be missed.

Sumner

My friends’ much loved fifteen year old cat Sumner went home to his Maker yesterday, but not before he gifted his owners with one last loving gesture . . .

Sumner was sunning himself on the furniture beneath the side window when he got up, and jumped onto the dining room table two feet away where my friends Richard and Vangie were eating breakfast.  He lay down in front of Richard and in two seconds, breathed his last.  The loving trust in that amazing final burst of strength has made a cherished memory of an otherwise sad event.

Rest in peace, Sumner . . . you are missed

Malibu

When the ninth life of my friend's lovely cat Malibu finally ran out, it was time

for a card . . .

Originally, I tried gluing on some decorator sand for the dune, but that made the card very heavy.  Also, the glue never really dried.  I was envisioning a half-naked card and an envelope full of sand after the post office did their thing.

So, what better than actual sandpaper?  It even has a bit of sparkle, just like real sand. Sometimes, the simplest solutions work out to be the best . . .

Howard

Today it was time to say goodbye to a beloved pet . . .

Howard was a happy lifelong resident at the home of my neighbors Richard and Vangi  and because he was so well loved, I wanted to get this card to them as quickly as possible.  So I made it in only an hour.  Hope it doesn't look like it . . .

Mac

When my friend's 16-year old cat died, I was made aware that I don't have much in the way of suitable cat images for such a sad feline event . . .

. . . so it was dies to the rescue.  Mac was a beautiful, rust-colored cat with pure white whiskers.  I sat him in the window looking out at an evening sky studded with shimmering copper colored stars to light his way home.  Mac was a well-loved cat . . .

Tink

When my friend Susi’s cat Tink died, this was the card I sent . . .

This is one of those rare cards I’ve done with no stamping on it, except for some paw prints which I have meandering across the back of the card.  Sometimes, texture is enough.

The loss of a beloved pet is one of life’s most painful of experiences and their passing is certainly worthy of one’s best efforts with a card along with the kindest words possible.  I suppose that non-pet people have a hard time understanding this mystical connection between humans and animals, but for the rest of us, no explanation is necessary.  Or even possible . . .

Dakota

When my dear friend Sandy’s well-loved 12 year old dog Dakota had to be put down recently, a sympathy card was certainly called for . . .

. . . I suppose there are some folks out there who think that sending a card for the loss of a pet is a little over the top.  Thankfully, I’ve never met anyone who feels that way and I hope I never do.
